DISTRIBUTION: This species is a resident, and is fairly common in southern Britain, and becomes scarcer in the north. It was thought for many years that A. Effractana was a local variation of A. Emargana, that occurred mainly in northern England and Scotland. A. Effractana has now been granted full specific status.

WING SPAN: 18mm to 22mm.                                   STATUS: Resident.         

FLIGHT PERIOD: These moths are on the wing from July through to September. They are basically a wood land species, nut can be found in a lot of habitats with plenty of the right species of tree's.

LARVAL PERIOD: The caterpillars feed on the leaves and shoots of various tree's including, Birch, Poplar, Oak and Sallow.

HABITAT: Habitats include wood land, hedgerows, parks, gardens where there are a lot of native deciduous tree's.

FOOD PLANT/S: The leaves and shoots of various tree's including, Birch, Poplar, Oak and Sallow.

SIMILAR SPECIES: Some plainer looking specimens are similar to Acleris Effractana, the indentations on the sides of the forewing of Acleris Effractana are shallower, and some times absent. Also Acleris Effractana is consistently plainer in appearance, with small groups of raised black scales.
