DISTRIBUTION: This species is a fairly common where its food plants occur. This resident moth is widely distributed throughout Britain except Scotland, where it is found mainly in the south, east and north east.

 

WING SPAN: 17 to 20mm.                                             STATUS: Resident.         

FLIGHT PERIOD: The adults are usually on the wing from August to May in mild to warm weather, hibernating during colder spells. Recently though adult moths have been recorded in June and July. Perhaps in early warm seasons there is a partial second brood.

LARVAL PERIOD: They feed within rolled up leaflets of the food plant which is Hemlock. Sometimes older larvae are found within the flowers, or fruits of the food plant. Caterpillars can be found from May to early July. Pupation takes place in detritus, or in earth.

 

HABITAT: These moths inhabit just about anywhere that the food plant grows.

FOOD PLANT/S: The food plant is Hemlock                                    

SIMILAR SPECIES: Some specimens of Agonopterix Propinquella, an Subpropinquella are superficially similar.
