DISTRIBUTION: This species is increasing its range in recent years, and can be found ion England as far north as Lincolnshire.

 

WING SPAN: 54mm to 66mm.                                   STATUS: Resident     

FLIGHT PERIOD: This species is single brooded, and is on the wing from late June or early July, through to early to mid August. They spend a lot of time in the tree tops, but come down regularly to feed on bramble flowers.

LARVAL PERIOD: They can be found from August through to May of the following year. The pupa are green and brown and are an unusual shape, they appear to mimic dead Honeysuckle leaves.

 

HABITAT: This butterflies habitats are deciduous wood land, with an abundance of its food plants. It doe's some times how ever use young conifer plantation, but once the tree's grow and shade out the light it inevitably disappears.

FOOD PLANT/S: The food plant for this caterpillar is Wild Honeysuckle.
