DISTRIBUTION: This species has spread very rapidly over Europe since it was first recorded in Macedonia during 1985. It was first seen in Britain in south west London, at Wimbledon during 2002. There were quite large numbers of the moth, suggesting it may have arrive before 2002. At this time, nine years later it is well distributed throughout England, as far north as Yorkshire.
WING SPAN: 7mm to 9mm. STATUS: Resident appeared in the UK either as an accidental import, or as a migrant. FLIGHT PERIOD: Spring through to autumn. LARVAL PERIOD: Spring through to autumn.
HABITAT: They inhabit parks, gardens, wood land, hedgerows and other places where the food plants grow. FOOD PLANT/S: Horse Chestnut leaves, mining between the upper and lower surfaces. SIMILAR SPECIES: There are other similar species of micro moths. |
